ASCIANO Group will haul coal by rail for Macarthur Coal, under a newly signed contract.

The nine-year contract will see rail haulage services starting in July 2009. Queensland-based Macarthur Coal will benefit from a haulage capacity of up to 3.7m tonnes per year.

Asciano has started commissioning its diesel coal trains for the coal fields, and claims the contract is helping it expand its Queensland market. It remains confident of the export opportunities for coal.
