Charities help train new generation of warehouse workers

THE QUEENSLAND government has coordinated with charities to give eight unemployed young people the chance to develop new skills in warehousing.

The project is part of the Skilling Queenslanders for Work initiative which aims to help young people kick-start their careers.

The participants will be working in real warehouses in Sumner Park, Red Hill and Colmslie, developing new skills, confidence and motivation. These warehouses assist charities in organising and distributing their goods.

Foodbank in Colmslie is the host of four of the participants, while Saint Vincent de Paul and the Salvation Army are each hosting two participants.

Foodbank Queensland is a non-profit organisation which stores food donated from producers and processing companies and distributes it to more than 275 welfare agencies who feed over 60,000 Queenslanders each week.
