A CRANE at a Port Melbourne tipped over during a pipe moving operation, according to WorkSafe Victoria.
WorkSafe Victoria is now investigating the incident, which occurred late in the morning of 20 April 2009. Two cranes were moving a 13t pipe when one stopped suddenly, causing the other to tip.
The driver of the crane managed to climb out of the cabin, and was taken to hospital for a check up.
WorkSafe Victoria has issued a Prohibition Notice against the crane. The owner will need to ensure it is checked by a competent person, and that any necessary repairs are made before it returns to service.
The work practices at the Port Melbourne site are also being reviewed.
In 2008, the driver of a truck-mounted crane died as he unloaded steel coils. His truck tipped and was trapped between his vehicle and the one next to it.
