THE Australian Transport and Energy Corridor (ATEC) group will develop a new intermodal regional freight port at Charlton, Queensland.

The group will develop the 200 hectare site in three stages over the next two decades. The development is expected to cost $150 million.

The terminal will link the Surat Basin resources province to eastern Australia, in which the freight and logistics market is located.

According to ATEC, the site will be the major regional port to support growth in Queensland. It is estimated that by 2030 the Surat Basin will be injecting $10 billion to gross regional product and create 16,000 new jobs.
