MICHELIN claims its newest Energy Saver truck and car tyres have reduced global fuel consumption by more than 66.7m litres since their launch in 2008.
According to Michelin, the performance of tyres consume one tank of fuel out of three for trucks, and the company aims to design tyres which will reduce fuel consumption while maintaining safety and tread life performance.
The Michelin Energy Saver car tyres have sold 23m units. The company estimates they have helped reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 131,000t.
In May 2008, Michelin’s truck division released the Michelin X Energy SaverGreen in the 317/70 R 22.5 size, which can reduce fuel consumption by 500 litres per year per truck. The company claims the truck tyres have reduced overall fuel consumption by 1.1m litres, and carbon dioxide emissions by 3000t.
Michelin Energy Saver tyres have been certified for use on more than 100 vehicles produced by leading manufacturers.
