Queensland Rail to maintain rail freight network

QUEENSLAND Rail has won a $100m eight-year contract to maintain Australia’s interstate rail network.

The contract with the Australian Rail Track Corporation (ARTC) will see QR providing rail grinding services on interstate standard gauge track and NSW freight lines.

The company will grind about 3000km of the 10,000km network each year, from Brisbane to Kalgoorlie.

Rail grinding utilises powerful machines, and works by returning tracks to their original shape to extend the life of tracks and trains. Half of the work will be located in the Hunter Valley, NSW.
