SAFE Work Australia has released three guidance publications for the stevedoring industry which will create a national approach to improving safety within the workplace.
The booklets include Working Safely on the Waterfront, Working Safely with General Cargo, Steel Products and Working Safely with Containers.
Safe Work Australia says the publications are based on material developed by WorkSafe Victoria, which have been adapted for use nationally.
According to Safe Work Australia, the booklets will provide guidance on the best occupational health and safety practices for the industry.
Safe Work Australia developed the material in consultation with state and territory OHS regulators, unions, the Australian Maritime Safety Authority and the stevedoring industry.
The booklets will be formally launched at information sessions in Melbourne, Perth and Sydney during November 2009.
