Sedgman to build coal handling plant for BHP

SEDGMAN will design and procure a coal handling and preparation plant for BHP Billiton Mitsubishi Alliance.

According to the company, the contract is worth more than $80m. It will see the mining services group build the handling plant at the planned Daunia mine, next to the Red Mountain coal handling and preparation plant already in operation.

BHP Billiton is said to be expanding its Bowen Basin presence, and is also modularising its coal preparation plants to combat the soaring resource industry costs.

The key components for the new handling plant will be delivered in 2009.
