SHAMIC Sheetmetal is said to be the first fabrication business in Australia to install the completely automated lights-out materials handling system, Night Train FMS.
Finn-Power’s Night Train FMS, distributed in Australian and New Zealand by Maxitec, allows the Shamic Sheetmetal plant to run shifts without any active personnel present.
Maxitec says although WorkCover authorities recommend one person oversea any lights-out scenario, pre-set parameters on Night Train FMS will oversea the shift through all the manufacturing processes.
According to Maxitec, Night Train FMS integrates various FINN-POWER cells of right angle shears, laser cutters, turret punch/presses and bending units to form a seamless automation system.
The cells can load, scrap, remove, sort and stack, while the overall system can load and stack sheets, look after component stack buffering, provide cell to cell transfer and remove bent components.
Shamic Sheetmetal manufactures brands including HeatCharm, Coonara and Arrow wood and gas log fires for household use.
