LEADERS at the National Transport & Logistics Innovation and Technology Summit held recently in Sydney say innovation throughout the whole supply chain will help Australia overcome the carbon challenge and financial volatility.
Australian Logistics Council (ALC) chief executive, Hal Morris told summit attendees on 19 November 2008 that the transport and logistics industry “cannot survive uncertain economic times without a more aggressive push for innovation and collaboration”.
“This is not the time to pull back from change, but to embrace it to reduce the reliance on carbon and slash the emissions from supply chains,” he said.
Leaders called on the industry to renew its focus on research and development, and say governments should remove regulatory complexities and plan the needs of the “shifting logistics industry”.
Governments were also urged to encourage the relevant sectors to invest in innovative practices through tax incentives and provision of information.
The ALC joined with Telstra and the NSW Department of State and Regional Development to host the conference in Sydney from 18 to 19 November 2008.
