BUD-PAK has supplied two automatic bag placers to the cornstarch products bagging lines at Penford’s Lane Cove plant.

The Technipes Transfer/R automatic bag placers have been installed so as to interface with the existing Erkomat valve bag packing machines.

The bag placer is suited for internal or external valve bags made of paper, polypropylene and polyethylene. Bags can range in width between 90mm to 180mm, while the machine is capable of handling weights from 5kg to 50kg.

According the supplier, the valve bag placer is simple, reliable and compact. It comes with either a static single station empty bag magazine or a motorised multi-station magazine which automatically transfers the empty bag stack to the pick-up location. Each station can take up to 50 empty bags.

The machines will be controlled by a Siemens S7-200 programmable logic controller (PLC) although an Allen-Bradley version can also be specified.

The units installed at the cornstarch plant have been retrofitted with pneumatic bag clamps which can ensure an empty bag is correctly placed on the filling spout before the filling cycle begins.
