SIEMENS has released a gas chromatograph for monitoring the transfer and processing of natural gas through pipelines, distribution stations and terminals.
The Sitrans CV determines the calorific value of natural gas. According to the company, the device is rugged, compact and has an explosion-proof housing. It can be used in extreme conditions from negative 20 to 55 degrees Celsius.
To install the unit, it is mounted directly next to the pipeline, and will deliver measuring results within three minutes. It is said to use small amounts of carrier gas and electricity, and requires only one calibration gas.
Besides the calorific value of natural gas, the process gas chromatograph also detects the Wobbe index and density, which are essential parameters in many applications within the natural gas industry.
The manufacturer claims the measurement accuracy does not depend on the pressure of the sample or the ambient temperature, because the device uses miniaturised detectors and valves made with micro-electro-mechanical systems technology. The results are displayed on the integrated screen.
